Get to know Michael Goodyear, Experiential Designer here at VISUALAB Media

Today, the spotlight’s on Michael Goodyear, also known as ‘Mike’ amongst the team here at VISUALAB. Mike is our talented experiential designer and we asked him the same 5 questions we love to ask all of our new team members — except we’re a bit late to the party in getting around to interviewing Mike, he’s actually been with us a while now, but better late than never as they say! Here’s how it went…

"If you were asked to describe yourself in 5 words, what would you say?"

“Outgoing - Creative - Passionate - Musical - Dedicated”

"What inspired you to pursue a career in design?"

“I just love making things, have done since I can remember. I originally got into writing and producing music, naturally progressed into video editing and then into 3D design from there. The best part is when you combine all of those things you can make something really special. I think the inspiration comes from watching TV and movies when I was younger, and wondering how it was done. I remember thinking it was really cool, since then I’ve always wanted to work in a creative field.”

"What made you want to join VISUALAB?"

“A lot of things attracted me to VISUALAB, the main thing was the challenge. Up until now I had been working in-house and within marketing teams of larger companies. That's great but it becomes quite limiting creatively after a while. Joining VISUALAB gave me an opportunity to test myself in the agency arena and allow me to grow and develop, also be amongst a really talented team of creatives, something I have been craving for a while.”

"Can you share a recent project you worked on?"

“One of my favourites was making an Aquarium for 'H3' — an Oceanco super yacht. They were building an LED corridor and needed atmospheric content to bring it to life. One of the requests for content was a full-scale 3D underwater aquarium scene. It was designed so that it could be spread along both sides of the corridor and make the most out of the curved edges. It was a big challenge to make and came with some interesting technical problems. Solving these and then seeing the content in action on-vessel was a privilege. To compliment the visuals I also produced original sound design and recorded underwater sound effects. These were mapped along multiple speakers throughout the corridor ceiling, creating a real immersive experience as you walk through it. It was a great project to be involved in.”

As we continue to push the boundaries of creativity at VISUALAB, we're delighted to have Mike onboard our journey, infusing his unique vision into the team!
