Ambient content, what it is and why you’d use it…
Ambient content has been a hot topic for us for a while now, but we know there’s still some confusion about what this type of content actually is, where you’d use it and why - so let’s shed some light.
It’s less ‘comms’ and more ‘visual pizazz’. When most of us think about digital signage and its content, we typically envision it solving some sort of communication obstacle - maybe it’s with employees in an office space or maybe it’s advertising to customers in-store. Ambient content has a completely different purpose behind it. It’s artistic, and more about adding pizazz to a space, not to communicate, but to change the aura, and to set the tone (whatever that may be) for that space.
A brilliant example would be a reception hub, where dwell times are longer and boredom might strike. Ambient content would perform almost like a changing digital painting, becoming part of the decor but with extra added effects to perhaps calm anyone in the space. It adds a splash of colour, personality and style - almost like a new form of interior design where digital becomes part of the physical space. It’s all about using content to create a certain type of feeling. It can be mesmerising and powerful enough to completely transform its surroundings.
